Vintage Silver Plated Conn 14D--rainbow spectrum painted bell
This delicate vintage bell is silver plated and painted with a chaotic rainbow spectrum of colors on the inside of the bell flare.
A Conn 14D was the donor for this yellow brass bell. Original serial number was N89207, which has a 1970 date of manufacture. It has been delacquered, cleaned, fitted with an Alexander ring, and then painted with the colorful pattern. This is a very lightweight bell and has a super sweet, resonant sound. It had a rough life and there are a lot of creases remaining from some previous damage--there are no tears or patches.
The bell with Alexander ring weighed 382g before painting. It weights 407g after the paint application.
bell height: 5-1/4 inches
bell throat inner diameter: 2-13/16 inches
bell rim diameter: 12-1/4 inches
Note: This bell is a prototype and there are numerous imperfections in the paint pattern, which can be seen in the pictures. Additionally, the bell has a bit of a wobble/asymmetry as it could not be completely straightened prior to installing the bell ring. I am constantly trying new customization techniques for bells to create visually interesting and appealing bells that have good playing characteristics.
