This bell was recovered from a yellow brass Holton horn, unknown serial number, but appears to be from the 1970’s. The outer surface has been delacquered, cleaned, and fitted with a Yamaha ring. The inner surface was lightly cleaned, but not so much as to remove all the characteristics that point to this bell’s history of service. Seven planets, one representing each movement of Gustav Holst's The Planets, have been created and soldered onto the outer bell surface: Mercury, Venus, Mars, Jupiter (including 4 Galilean moons), Saturn, Uranus and Neptune. The planets are made out of Nickel Silver, Red Brass, Copper, and Yellow Brass.
The bell with a Yamaha ring weighed 337g before the planets applique. It weighs 389g after the planets were applied. This is a lightweight bell and should be quite responsive.
